French yard offers innovative and spacious cat

This 43-footer, the latest model in French manufacturer Catana’s Bali series of luxury cruising catamarans offers impressive socialising spaces both within the vast bridgedeck accommodation and on deck.

The 30 square metre open-plan bridgedeck runs from near the aft end of the boat to well in front of the mast support. It’s a huge space, incorporating galley, navigation, dining and lounging areas, with all-round windows and a full width opening to the small aft cockpit that can be closed off easily in inclement weather.

Steering and sail handling is primarily carried out from the bridgedeck, which in addition to a comfortable sculpted helm seat there’s also space here for another half dozen people. However, the real on-deck masterpiece is at the front of the boat. Despite the long bridgedeck saloon, the foredeck area still has space for 10-12 people to sit – or lounge on sunbeds – around two removable tables.

Down below in the hulls buyers have the typical layout options for catamarans of this size, with a choice of a four-cabin charter layout or a three cabin owner’s alternative in which the whole of the port hull is given over to a large master suite. It’s also possible to have the boat built with just two cabins, each one taking up an entire hull.

As befits this style of boat, the easily handled rig consists of a fully-battened mainsail plus non-overlapping Solent jib. Furling reaching sails – a Code 0 and a screacher – can be set just forward of the main forestay to improve sailing performance in light airs and when sailing downwind. Two choices of engine are offered – either twin 40hp or 50hp diesels.

The Bali 4.3 Loft is configured to be able to cruise for more extended periods without returning to a marina to top up supplies thanks to 800 litres of both water and diesel tankage, plus a 615 litre American-style fridge with ice maker and chilled water dispenser.
